A lot of us own a cookbook from a famous chef, hoping that if we follow their exact steps, Instagrammable, mouthwatering meals are just around the corner. But even when we try to make it step by step, those recipes never turn out quite as delicious as we imagined.

There’s something missing… something special.

We do the same thing as creatives. We have countless “cookbooks” from creative superstars who graciously gave us their Recipe For Success, but when we follow it, the final product doesn’t match up.

Adé Hogue, acclaimed designer and letterer, challenges us to think differently about the Creative Recipe.
Instead of asking for a tried-and-true recipe, we should be asking what the creative did to make theirs taste (or look) special. We have to discover our own secret ingredient before we can truly own our craft.
