This dynamite crew of creatives came together at the end of September and spent more than 15 hours over two days at the Loann Crane Center for Design at CCAD reviewing hundreds of entries in 14 categories. They took their tasks seriously—studying, reading, and discussing the best professional and student work produced in the past year. The competition heated up and the best work was left standing.

Lauren Hom

Hom Sweet Hom / NYC & Los Angeles

Whimsical, colorful, and fierce. Those are just three of the words that barely begin to sum up the work and world of Lauren Hom. As a judge, she’s quick to know what strikes her fancy—and from there the heat is on. When Lauren isn’t awarding others, she’s usually receiving top honors herself from all the hottest magazines and organizations. Known for her bright color palettes and playful letterforms, Lauren is happiest when she’s creating—including finding a few spare minutes between judging to letter a six-foot “Columbus” mural.

Meg Lewis

Ghostly Ferns / Minneapolis

Meg specializes in creating brands with unique experiences that are fun to interact with and enjoy. And that’s just the vibe she looked for while judging—thoughtful projects that light up the room and make her smile. A founder of the design collective Ghostly Ferns in Brooklyn, Meg now works out of Minneapolis. When she isn’t touring the country giving lectures and workshops, she’s churning out work for happy companies. Her insightful reasoning, upbeat personality, and impromptu “mom dancing” made her an integral member of the judging squad.

Lindsey Laseter

Perky Bros / Nashville

Not afraid to take a stand for what she believes in, Lindsey is the type of judge to fully consider every single project—examining all the details and looking for that piece that sets the competition ablaze. Hailing from South Carolina and settling in Nashville as an art director and designer at Perky Bros, her southern roots make her the most charming person in the room—and her outstanding design skills make her a force to be reckoned with. Lindsey thrives on unique solutions that connect brands to their audience on a personal level.

Mig Reyes

Trunk Club / Chicago

Chicago native, friend of the internet, and all-around nice guy—Mig is a traditionally trained graphic designer gone web. He’s the type of judge who is inclined to facilitate thoughtful conversations—carefully analyzing the merits of the work and not bashful to champion a project that strikes a chord. Now working as design lead at Trunk Club, Mig explores the intersection of brand, marketing, and product design while shaping a best-in-class team of digital designers. Mig fired on all cylinders while here in Columbus— and even won a chair race or two.
