Fahlgren Mortine is seeking a content developer/writer and brand journalist to join its Cleveland or Columbus, Ohio, office. The content developer/writer has at least five years of experience creating and writing technical stories that educate, inform and motivate external and internal audiences. This position is part of agency’s Client Engagement team and supports primarily complex business-to-business accounts. It is not a traditional creative copywriter role within an advertising agency.

This individual will be responsible for taking writing assignments from concept to completion in support of communications-led integrated campaigns. Specific projects will range from writing blog posts and news releases to case studies and white papers. The content developer/writer can independently develop and manage client deliverables and timelines while maintaining a steady hand amid shifting priorities.


Content Development

  • Writes various forms of content for technical audiences including but not limited to engineers, IT professionals, facility managers; content forms may include: blog posts, executive letters and speeches, contributed articles, white papers, case studies, social media posts and brochures
  • Develops engaging and relevant content through primary and secondary research methods
  • Brings a natural curiosity that helps make content interesting, innovative and newsworthy
  • Understands the difference between thought-leadership and sales content as part of an integrated campaign
  • Reflects brand voice and tone in all communications; adheres to AP Stylebook and/or client style
  • Demonstrates an understanding of evolving content consumption trends and applies learnings
  • Engages with search engine optimization team to maximize value of content for organic search
  • Edits works quickly based on client feedback
  • Proofreads all work to ensure writing is concise, grammatically correct with zero punctuation errors
  • Exhibits ownership of project budgets and timelines so work is delivered at cost and on time

  • Collaborates with team members in media, creative, digital and public relations to bring the best solutions and expertise to the client, and to develop relationships and strategies to grow our clients’ business with the agency
  • Manages projects from concept to completion with a detail-oriented, collaborative attitude

Agency Development

  • Supports the organization by adhering to consistent standards for financial performance, including timely input on projected work, billing, and other administrative duties
  • Develops a thorough understanding of the entire marketing and communications landscape in order to support clients’ integrated marketing and communications programs
  • Ensures agency values of collaboration, engagement and trust are adhered to across all client projects and deliverables
  • Provides support to team members at all levels on various projects as needed
  • Contributes to new business initiatives, as appropriate


  • A minimum of five years working in an agency or corporate content-development/marketing setting and/or experience preferably in industrial or technology industries
  • Experience writing for a B2B trade publication is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience writing technical content for B2B audiences across multiple media
  • Adept at learning about new industries quickly and transforming technical subject matter into easy-to-understand content
  • Experience managing multiple projects and prioritizing; demonstrates a sense of urgency in responding to client questions and requests
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • BA/BS in journalism preferred – or related fields
  • Ability to travel, which is estimated to be around 10% of a full schedule
