One cold day in Chicago, Armin Vit realized there’s more to design than pushing pixels. A good designer cultivates the ability to tease out the core of a client’s business, brand or message. “It’s more like being a shrink who has good taste in graphics,” he’s observed.

Co-founder of design network (and firm) UnderConsideration and all the sites under its umbrella, Vit moves easily among the diverse worlds of design. From brand identity to groundbreaking blogs, he’s a creative commercial designer who also critiques and catalogs the state of our art.

Vit has written for AIGA’s VOICE, Emigre, Eye, Creative Review, HOW, and STEP magazines. Recent projects include the redesign of Creativity magazine. Currently at work on two books with his wife and UnderConsideration partner Bryony Gomez-Palacio (The Women of Design and the 400-page Graphic Design, Referenced), he lives in Brooklyn and teaches at the School of Visual Arts. It’s a long way from his native Mexico City, where he was inspired by his father’s post-50 conversion to graphic designer — and took to the profession himself.

Join us as we welcome the creator of influential design blog Speak Up and the head of UnderConsideration’s Department of Design for an evening of insight and professional camaraderie.
