CSCA has a crush on Julia Hoffman. Her funny, understated presentation last Thursday provided a charming, modest glimpse at her unusually swift rise in the design world, from her tutelage under Paula Scher at Pentagram to her stunning recent work as creative director at MoMA.

What wasn’t to love? “Ohio is typographically beautiful,” Hoffman noted in her opening comments, and went on to use CSCA’s own event headline (“From the Simpsons to Cezanne”) as the theme for her entire presentation. “I’m attracted to opposites,” she noted. “My greatest weakness is indecision.” From our vantage point, her exporation of both sides of design challenges — cultural and commercial, design and advertising — is what makes her so special. We thank her again for spending time with us, and for recognizing Ohio as a source of world-class creativity.
